Betty Jeanne Kenick
Betty Jeanne Kenick of 10 Hobart Street, Exeter went home to her Lord in the evening of November 13, 2007.
She died peacefully at home in the arms of her beloved husband, surrounded by family. The last Rites of the Anglican Church were administered and she passed on within minutes of her friends from the Anglican Church of the Resurrection departing.
Known as “BJ” to her family and her many friends, she was born in Aspinwall Pennsylvania, on April 9, 1941, the daughter of the late Alexander Clark Kahn and Mary Sylvia (Kehoe) Kahn. Raised in Aspinwall and West Rumney NH, she resided with her husband in Nashua NH, Merrimack NH, San Jose CA, and St. Petersburg FL before moving to the Kenick Family homestead in 1971.
In addition to her husband of 40 years, Joseph L. Kenick Jr. she is survived by a son, Joseph L. Kenick III, his wife Dr. Sarah P. Kenick, two greatly beloved grandchildren, Joseph L. Kenick IV and Alexandra Maria Kenick, all of Stratham, a daughter Catherine Lynne (Kenick) Tomlinson and her husband Clive of St. Helens OR., two brothers, Dr. A. Clark Kahn III of Kalamazoo, MI and Dewey Kahn and his wife Vera of Bedford, NH. Also two dear Nieces, Ms. Lesley Kahn of Kalamazoo MI and Ms. Heidi Kahn Sanborn and her husband Brad of Sacramento CA, two cherished nephews, A. Clark Kahn IV and his wife Susan of Battle Creek MI and Theodore Kahn and his wife Linda of Lee NH.
A graduate of Houle Beauty Academy in Nashua, she was a practicing beautician for many years. She did much beautician and personal service work pro-bono or at a greatly reduced rate for those who were elderly and alone. She was also a Certified Nurses Aide, working in local nursing homes and in private duty.
A member of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls in her teens, she was a great admirer and ardent supporter of the Masonic Fraternity. She and her husband served on the charter Board of Governors of the 32nd Degree Masonic Learning Center for Children in Rochester where a tutoring room for dyslexic children is dedicated to her. She also authored the Ladies Corner articles for the newsletter of the Scottish Rite Valley of Portsmouth/Dover.
A life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1088, she was widely known and appreciated for sounding TAPS with her husband at Veterans observances and individual interments. She performed at Memorial Day observances in Kensington, Exeter and Stratham again this year, despite the effects of Chemotherapy, while again battling Breast Cancer which she first defeated in 1988.
She and her husband were Founding Members of the Board of Directors of Exeter Crimeline and she was a life-long supporter of Law Enforcement.
While raising her children she served as a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, and a Cub Scout Assistant Den Mother. She served until her death as an evaluator for 4-H, judging annually at the Stratham and Deerfield Fairs and other events such as the Favorite Foods Festival and the Statewide Demonstration Day at UNH.
A deeply religious woman, she served on projects at Christ Episcopal Church for many years. In recent years she was active in the Anglican Church of the Resurrection and at All Saints Anglican Church. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered as her witness to her love of the Lord was to serve others freely and willingly.
Friends are invited to visit from 2 to 4 P.M. and from 6 to 8 P. M. on Saturday, November 17 at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter, NH. A Masonic Service will be held at 7 PM all are invited to attend. Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M. Sunday, November 18, at All Saints Anglican Church, 67 Friend Street, Amesbury MA.
Interment will be in the Exeter Cemetery with a reception and fellowship to follow at the Stockbridge Funeral Home.
